Malawi Airlines has approached the Malawian government for additional funds. This comes after the airline has suspended flights due to coronavirus. The airline is requesting for U$D528,000 to meet trading obligations relating to salaries.
Recently in an interview with one of the local newspapers a Malawi Airlines executive said “We have been meeting the Ministry of Finance for a possible bailout to cover salaries and aircraft leasing fees”. An outcome from the meetings has not been communicated.

3W operates 2 aircraft a Boeing 737-700 and a Bombardier Q8-400 all leased with a total workforce of 86 staff members. Malawi Airlines is in a joint venture with African giant Ethiopian Airlines on a 51/49 arrangements.
Malawian flies to 10 destinations across its network including Johannesburg, Dar es Salaam, Harare and Lusaka.
