TAAG Angola (DT) the national carrier of Angola has taken delivery of the first of six Dash 8-400 turbo-props. At the 2019 Paris Airshow TAAG Angola signed a firm order of six turbo props with De Havilland Canada valued at U$202 million at listing price.
The addition of the turbo prop jets is part of the airline’s fleet modernization and renewal programme, this is according to a statement released on the airline’s website. “As part of the process of modernization and renewal of its fleet, TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola SA hereby announces that it has acquired six (6) Dash 8-400s aircraft.”
TAAG operated an all-Boeing fleet with B777s and B737s serving destinations within Angola, Africa, Europe and South America. The addition of the Dash 8-400 will allow the airline to serve thin markets and build the Luanda hub.
Rui Carreira, CEO of TAAG Angola said, “TAAG is looking to the future of our fleet and the market opportunities where the Dash 8-400 aircraft will be an important part of our growth strategy. The acquisition of these new aircraft is important to support a stronger domestic network and support our regional and international network.”
The African market is suited for the turbo-prop engine because of its largely operational economics and capacity. “The Dash 8-400 aircraft offers unmatched performance and outstanding economics that will allow us to better serve smaller communities and increase frequencies in Angola. With a proven reliability and De Havilland’s comprehensive support network, we look forward to adding this great network builder to our fleet,” added Carreira.
