Botswana charter operator Mack Air will add Windhoek and Victoria Falls to their network once travel restrictions have been lifted.
This was confirmed on the airline`s Facebook page. “Mack Air is currently the only private applicant for the scheduled domestic route and our Air Transport License (ATL) has been approved for scheduled services between Maun – Windhoek and between Kasane – Victoria Falls”.
According to the airline, scheduled domestic flights are set to commence soon.
Mack Air’s announcement comes after the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) had published an invitation to Batswana businesses to tap into business opportunities in the domestic scheduled air services. Botswana has projected a tourism boom post Covid-19 lockdown.
Speaking to local press, CAAB spokesperson Modipe Chris Nkwe confirmed that Mack Air, has applied to enter the domestic scheduled services. He added, “Mack Air was licenced by CAAB in late 2019 to carry out scheduled services between Maun and Windhoek and between Kasane and Victoria Falls and was meant to resume in April this year. It could not go ahead due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.”
Mack Air becomes the second Botswana based airline to announce resumption of some air service after Air Botswana announced resumption of domestic service on 17 July 2020. The Maun – Windhoek and Kasane-Victoria Falls flights will be a major boom for the regional tourism providing access to these resorts.
