Africa’s premier cargo airline, Astral Aviation has been awarded full Pharma.Aero membership.
Pharma.Aero, a non-profit organization aimed at achieving excellence in reliable end-to-end air transportation for Life Science and Medtech shippers, by fostering collaboration between Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) certified airport communities dedicated in developing and pioneering when it comes to handling, storage and air transportation of pharmaceuticals.
Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO, Astral Aviation, commented, “We are honored to become a Full Member of Pharma.Aero as we have confidence in the importance of Pharma.Aero in its efforts to foster collaboration between all members of the Pharma supply-chain. Being a member of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), Astral Aviation is truly grateful for the launch of Project Sunrays which is an initiative between TIACA and Pharma Aero that will establish useful guidelines to ensure the proper and safe handling, storage, and transport of the highly expected volume of COVID-19 vaccines.”
Africa has been recording a steady increase in pharma-cargo over the years. The demand for pharma-cargo increased over the past few months due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. During that pandemic period, Astral Aviation transported lifesaving pharma-cargo to different African countries from across the world through their Nairobi hub.
In July, during the JAA Interview Series, Astral Aviation’s Sanjeev Gadhia, when asked if African air cargo adapting to the requirements of perishable and pharma-cargo, said: “Indeed, with Ethiopian Airlines Cargo, Astral Aviation, Kenya Airways Cargo, South African Airways Cargo, Egypt Air Cargo and RwandAir leading the way”.
